5 Reasons Your Business Needs a WD My Cloud EX2

Alternate title to this post... 5 Reasons Why EVERYONE Needs a WD My Cloud EX2 because seriously, you will thank me after reading this post. We have all had those panic moments. Black screen on the computer, missing files, you completed the proofs on your desktop computer and brought your laptop with you, these are all problems that could be solved with your own personal cloud storage.

My business is completely on the computer. I am a graphic designer. Sure, sometimes ideas start on paper but they always end up saved in a file on my computer.

Not to freak you out - but have you ever thought about what would happen if your computer crashed and you lost all of your files. It would take us MONTHS to build back up all the designs we have, replace all of the invoices, and lost original custom orders. It would put DBN out of commission, and frankly I think I would be ready to throw in the towel.

That's why I am so thankful for the peace of mind that has come with having our own cloud storage. Now let's get into the 5 reasons your business needs one too!

ONE You can have anytime, anywhere access to all of your files. WD My Cloud mobile app users can easily view photos, stream video and share, save and manage files from anywhere on their iOS® and Android™ devices.
image via
It doesn't matter that you saved the important file on your computer and you only have your iPhone with you. With your own personal cloud, everything that is linked to it is accessible. You can view and manage your personal cloud wherever you are.

TWO Already using another cloud storage option? WD has you covered. The WD My Cloud mobile app integrates major public cloud services so that business owners can easily transfer files from their Dropbox™, SkyDrive® and Google Drive™ public cloud accounts. It takes the guess work out of making the switch. This is so important because when you are running a small business, anything that will save you time is helpful!

THREE It's a one time fee. Once you purchase your My Cloud EX2, that's it. No monthly fees, for you to worry about.

FOUR The WD My Cloud EX2 has so much room to keep all of your devices backed up right out of the box. However, should you decide you need more storage it's so easy! All you need to do is attach a USB hard drive to the back of your device, and it's instantly got more room.

and maybe the best most important of all FIVE You hold all of the the control. No more illusive public cloud somewhere. When you use My Cloud EX2, all of your data is in one safe place on your personal network instead of floating around on a remote server you have no control over.

WD My Cloud EX2 Specifications include:

• MAP is $199.99 USD for the diskless My Cloud EX2, $369.99 USD for 4 TB, $469.99 USD for 6 TB and $569.99 USD for 8 TB.

• Windows 8.1 or earlier, Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP (32 bit) SP 3 operating systems
• Mac OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion or Snow Leopard operating systems
• DLNA/UPnP devices for streaming
• Router with Internet connection

• Private cloud storage
• Ethernet cable
• AC adapter

Portfolio: Hayes Made

Sharing another page of my portfolio today, and giving you a look at Hayes Made. I designed this logo for Meghan of Hayes Days for her to use on her handmade items.

We wanted something simple, and cute that had a handmade feel.

We went back and forth with whether or not we should add color, and ultimately decided to keep it simple and stick with black and white.

A lot of Meghan's items will be sewn, so I wanted to incorporate that in the stitching effect around the name. But I didn't want to make it so sewing specific that she couldn't branch out into other things.

Meghan also knows her way around some design programs pretty well, so she would be using this logo to design her own tags and business cards.

We can work with any needs you might have to come up with something perfect. Feel free to send me an email via the CONTACT ME page above, and we can chat!

Men in Suits by Bonobos

I was so honored when Bonobos emailed me to be a part of their Fall Style Challenge. If there is anything that is my favorite thing it would be a man in a suit.

So putting together a look I would love to see on my guy was super easy. You can see all of my picks in one place by checking out my style-board on Pinterest as well.

Bonobos sent me some exclusive images from their Fall 2014 Men's Suits catalogue, to use as inspiration for my outfits

I decided to start with a casual look first. I love the look of this slim blazer with jeans and a plaid button down.

This next look I am putting together was inspired by the pattern mixing happening in this photograph. I love the way the plaids work and complement the pattern on the tie.

What's your favorite look? Casual or dressy pattern mixing? Special thanks to Bonobos for sending me those exclusive images and asking me to participate in this campaign.

P.S. It's Thurday, that means I am co-hosing a link up with Katy + Meghan today. I shared my FAV thing this week, Men in Suits, so now share yours by linking up below!

Tip Tuesday #38 Etsy Tips For Sellers

Last week I shared my ten Etsy Tips for shoppers, this week I want to focus on the sellers! After nearly 5 years of selling on Etsy I would love to share some of the things we have learned along the way!

1. Know Your Customer: Realizing what you started selling on Etsy is probably not what you will be selling forever. I started selling only digital invites with pinup girls on them. I realized this was not my customer, it isn't what I wanted to sell or who I wanted to sell to.

Once I found my customer, my shop turned into the business that my husband and I were able to quit our jobs to pursue.

2. Add Local Events: Did you know Etsy has this super cool feature that lets you add any local events to your shop page. Just go to to add events, find events or show that you are attending events.

3. Don't Be Surprised: This is a huge one. Don't be surprised when ____ people copy you, people ask you the same question 10000x that is answered right there in the listing, people want to cancel there orders (even when your polices say no cancellations), people leave you a negative review even when you didn't do anything wrong. If you take out the element of surprise you are so much less likely to have these things ruin your day and your spirit.

4. Be Kind: This is especially true with those things you shouldn't be surprised by. Someone may not realize they copied you, let it go or send them a nice email if they could please take the item down or change it, only get serious if you need to!

The customer who asks you a question you have answered 10000x today doesn't know that! The best thing I can suggest for this is to save the answer to questions you are often asked as a "snippet" in the convos, that way you don't have to type it.

5. Answer Convos Quickly: This one is very important, and can get very overwhelming very fast! Set aside time each day to answer convos, I really don't think you should leave them unanswered for more than 24 hours, it could make you loose sales, or if there is an issue with an order it could cause the situation to escalate.

6. Take Care of Your Customers First: We all wish we had more time to come up with new ideas, or rearrange our shops, but be sure you are taking care of the customers who have given you money before you take on anything extra = happy customers.

7. Create a Realistic Turnaround Time: Let's be serious. If it takes you 3 weeks to get something in the mail, own it. People will wait if your product is awesome enough! But saying it takes 3-5 business days and customers are waiting 3-5 weeks for their mail to arrive is no good foe any of you.

8. Be Active on Social Media: People want to see the man behind the mask, show them your process and little bits of you life!

9. Participate in Etsy Prototypes: You can read my post on prototypes here. It is the best way to stay up to date and get the best of Etsy.

10. Don't Steal: This should go with out saying but here goes nothing. Playground rules apply here, don't steal someone else's art, idea or customer. If someone comes to you and asks you to recreate something, tell them to go order it from the original designer. Play nice people!

Madewell Fall Event

On Saturday, Meghan from Hayes Days and I headed to Downtown Atlanta to attend Cat + Mouse and Madewell's fall fashion event.

I first met the lovely artist behind Cat + Mouse at ICE Atlanta over the summer, she is a fellow local artist. When I saw on her Instagram page that she was teaming up with Madewell for a Fall Fashion event I knew I had to attend!

She drew the entire fall line, and she had lots of cute things available for purchase.

After saying hello (and picking up a few things from her) Meghan and I did some shopping.

this post contains affiliate links
The fact that it was 89* outside here, didn't make me want to try on too many Fall items, not to mention their sale section was fully stocked (and an additional 40% off) I ended up with this dress.
I hope Meghan would agree with me on this, but the dress looks WAY WAY WAY better on someone with some shape than it does on this model.

But I did add some Fall items to my wish list like these

Of course we had to make an Anthro stop. I just love looking around, and shopping, that store. I could live in Anthro.
Then we headed over to the new Kate Spade store that moved from Lenox to Phipps a few months ago. I just love the back wall, it really is so happy! And the floors, I mean come on. Every detail in this shop is perfect.

and of course, I added a few more things to my mental love list. You can't have too many purses right?

How was your weekend?

Brita Filtered Water Bottle | My Favs on Thursdays

It's Thursday and that means Meghan, Katy and I are sharing one of our FAV things. This week I am so excited to tell you about this awesome Brita filtered water bottle.

I am all about staying hydrated. In fact did you know that 75% of people in America are chronically dehydrated? I can cause all sorts of things that can make you feel bad, and I can tell when I am not drinking enough. So anytime we are headed somewhere the first thing I think about is packing water, and making sure we have enough.

In this house someone, who shall remain nameless ahem: Cameron, has a water bottle problem. So much so that we have an entire cabinet full of a water bottle for every purpose you could imagine. Big, little, mid-sized, insulated, squeeze, straw and a few mason jar tumblers which I will take credit for.

This summer we attended an event in Atlanta, that we stayed in a hotel for. It was three days where we would be gone all day, and need to bring a packed lunch. I immediately thought about water, was I going to bring a case of water to the hotel? Carry around several disposable bottles all day, and just throw them away? Carry one and fill them with tap water, yuck?

Then I remembered seeing these bottles. You fill them up with tap water on the go, and as you sip the water through the straw it filters it for you. After finding a coupon to purchase them at Target, we decided to give them a try.

They worked awesome! The water came through the straw tasting like perfect, filtered water every time. The filters are replaceable and pretty inexpensive being that they last so long. And the bottles themselves come in many different sizes and styles.

I think they will be awesome to take to Disney with us this year, and they are great to have with you when you know you will be out all day.

I would buy them again, and would recommend them to anyone! That's why they are my FAV thing this week.

disclaimer: this post contains affiliate links, Brita DOT NOT provide this for review, I bought it with my own monies and all great opinions are from my own brain

Be sure to share your MY FAVS posts in the link up below. Have great day!

A Coffee Date

In real life, my favorite way to catch up with friends is with a good old fashioned coffee date. Today mine would be free because Starbucks let me know a little bit ago that I have a free drink this month! Woo Hoo!

I wish we could all sit down and have a nice latte together and talk about our feelings. But we can't, so this will have to do.

If we were on a coffee date today, I would start by talking about how excited I am for our upcoming trip to DISNEY. I really can hardly contain myself. In just about two weeks we will be in our favorite spot. I would talk about how I feel sad for people who don't get why Disney is a place worth visiting. But also I am a little overwhelmed because there is really so much to be done.

I would love to over-plan, and that stresses Cameron out, so we try and meet in the middle which almost always involves us staying up until 2am the night before we go anywhere. I am really trying hard to avoid that this time by planning the shop closure and making sure we are staying ahead of work now.

(and be sure not to show him all the crazy person lists I have hidden on my iPad)

I would talk about how I can tell the full-moon is coming because all of the crazies (customers) come out and our dog Geno acts crazy. Yesterday he ran circles in the living room for a good two min before passing out asleep in the middle of the carpet. See the adorable aftermath below for reference.

I would try to explain to you how excited I am that we will get to see our great friends Chase & Brittany next month when they pass through our area on their way to a wedding. We haven't seen them since February and I miss their faces!

After the light stuff, eventually I would get to the fact that I am worried about my Grandpa's, both of them have been in/out of the hospital recently with different issues. It just hurts to see two men who have done so much in their lives get older, and struggle to do what they used to.

Then I would probably show you this awesome picture of my Grandpa Torlief and his crew at Bethel, photo ©aifoto on instagram, he's the cute white haired one in the glasses.

But mostly I would go on and on about how thankful I am to have a friend like you that let's me ramble on and on and on while you drink your coffee and wonder if I will ever shut up.

What would you share over coffee?
