THE HARD DAYS

Wednesday is always the craziest day for me {hence the VERY late night post} all of the invite orders placed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday end up with a Wednesday delivery.

Because I am a one woman show, with a husband that handles order packing {he ties a mean twine bow} when something throws a wrench in my plan it can knock me hours off. So when Cameron {the hubby} injured his back at work early this week, it forced me to handle a lot of extra Designs by Nicolina stuff by myself.

When things like this happen, it forces me to take a step back, and get myself in check. And then, as I was trying to take a deep breath and get myself together my friend Aimee from Aimee Broussard & C.O. reminded me of something very important when she had to realize the same thing as me today...

YOU CAN'T IN FACT DO IT ALL!
... and most importantly sometimes you need a cupcake

So here is something for your desk, print it out and look at it when you need to remember that you do a lot, but you can't do it all! You can't make every single person happy 100% of the time, and sometimes you just need to take a break, eat a cupcake and get over it!

{TIP TUESDAY #1} CHARGING WHAT YOU ARE WORTH!

I am very excited to announce the first of {hopefully} many {TIP TUESDAY} posts on the blog. Today's tip is probably the most important one of all for a small handmade or freelance business. Charging what you are worth!

{PRICING} It can be difficult to put a price on what you do, especially if it is something that you love, or comes naturally to you. But you never want to sell yourself short. If you love what you do, chances are there is someone out there who will love it too! And if you want to turn your passion in to a business, you have to make money! So you need to make sure you are keeping your prices fair and competitive but also that you are making what you are worth!

{MAKE IT YOU} In business, and especially on Etsy, there will always be people who do things similar to what you do. They may do it for less, they may do it for more, but they don't do it like you! So make sure you put your own spin on things. Give people a reason to buy from YOU, a reason to pay you to do what you love.

{EXPLAIN, BUT DON'T APOLOGIZE} I sometimes get questioned on my prices. Why should people choose to buy from me when there are people selling similar items {digital invites, art prints, printed invites ect.} for MUCH less. You could let these questions get to you, or you could explain the experience. Most people just don't understand what they are getting for the cost, and if your item is unique enough, they won't mind paying a little bit more for something not as special!

But the one thing you don't want to do is apologize for your prices. If you don't question your prices, the right customers won't either. But if you apologize for them, it may cause your customers to do the same. So stick to your guns! Explain what it included, the experience you can give them, and if they don't appreciate it, then they probably aren't the right customers for you!

{LET YOUR FEEDBACK SPEAK!} Let the feedback from customers you worked so hard to earn speak for itself! Make sure you have a testimonials section on your website, or refer people to your feedback, all those customers can't be wrong!

I would love to hear what you think about this subject, or if you have an idea for {TIP TUESDAY} write me a comment!
